Fuges are an exciting and equally important addition to a tank! You can basically put anything in there! The nice thing is that you can house baby shrimp etc. that are protected in the confines of the refugium so as not to get eaten in the main tank.
I like to use FIJI GOLD " refugium starter"(which is actual mud from of the Fiji Islands). It contains necessary trace elements as well as bacteria etc. I also use Kent's Marine Biosediment which releases time-released nutrients(calcium strontium etc.) into my water! Of course you have to have Macroalgae as well-the sky is the limit!!!!!!!Have fun!

I'd watch out with the mud. I've heard that it's the best from some sources, however you have to be careful when to put it in. Often mud contains micro fauna that might die if forced through a cycle. Then again it's living in a bottle of mud, how delicate can it be.

On the other hand, you can't wait too long past the cycle, as adding mud to a fuge means that you'll end up contaminating the system for a bit. Muds have a curing process in which they need time to settle. I'm not exactly an expert on the matter, I'm sure someone here is. Gresham (for example), I'm sure knows alot more on the issue, is he still around?

Sup everybody, just wanna update on my tank. Ive been cycling it for a lil over 2.5 weeks. I already got an increidable amount of brown algea and green algea on the LS and LR, so im on the right track. Critters seem to be appearing everywere on the rock. All i am suplementing is Bionic two-part calcium. Havent checked the water yet, ima be giving it plenty of time before anything goes in. I will post pictures up tonight.
Let me know what you all think, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Okay guys, once again i need you all to give me your opinions!!
Okay, my tank has been setup for a month already. Havent done a water test, im giving it time. I have my fuge setup with LR and LS(5 inches). I just got my aqua c ev 180 yesturday. Ima set that up today, i just need to buy a mag 7. i know i need to do some plumbing(wich im looking up to it!!! :().
But My question as of now is about the water flow in my tank. i have a mag 18 as my return pump. I am thinking of placing 1 center wave2k and two tunze nanostreams. You all think thats too much??? That is the idea circulating through my head now, let me know if you like it, or have a better sugestion!!
