Skimmers can take a couple days to a week or more to break in. They have to develop a slime coating so to speak. You should be able to adjust the air intake to adjust the water height in the column. What type of skimmer is it?

Thats normal for new and not slimed up yet.You can also adjust the height of the skimmer body up or down in the water as well as air adjustment. But for now,i'd just let it run for a few to break in.

Just let is run for several days, if you can see condensation in the cup like that it should work. The skim aka bubbles will move up the column and into the collection cup once it breaks in.

What you have is a old style skimmer in tank type, they can be difficult to work with sometimes, if it does not preform better in a weeks time you may want to consider a hang on the back type of skimmer.

I have had that type (not brand) that do wonderful and others not do well, so it really depends. Give it a week to break in and bump this thread with the results.

If your tank is still cycling your skimmer will not produce much skimmate if any at all. As others have stated give it time. Patience is a big part of this hobby.;)
