Is it just me or is that some major overkill? It looks to me like there's one picasso clown in there... Who knows? Maybe he's got IBS (irritable bowel syndrome for those of you not in the know). Haha jk.

I'm between this and the Reef Octopus Super Reef 3000. They're the same price, and yours is rated to 200 gallons, is it a better design or something?

Congrats Sparky! I am sure you will love it, I always liked my old octopus. I was also SHOCKED when I actually got my new ASM skimmer for my 200 build. It was about the same size as the 40 display tank I was upgrading from!

    Will do!

What are you trying to say here? :)

My tank's a 90. The skimmer is rated up to 200 with "average bioload," so it's a bit higher, but not overkill. I have a kole tang in there with the percula clown; but my bioload isn't going to stay where it is now. Once the new sump, pump and skimmer are in place, I'll be putting in more livestock.

Okay, so my other question. Why is that one, rated to 200, the same price as this guy that's rated to 300. Is the pump that superior? Is it the design?

I was saying what such a fine reefer you are by starting a poll to confirm that spendng $$$ on a cone shaped protein skimmer is completely beneficial to the glass box with water in it that glows throughout the day. :)

The only difference I see is different pumps, and one's a cone. Maybe Reef Octopus could answer your question. I know Powerman knows a thing or two about skimmers too.

    :hehe:

I did a coin flip between that skimmer and the xp. Main thing I noticed with that skimmer that you have a link for is the pump. That pump is identical to the larger models. Why? I asked myself. Sure it probably is modded for that size body. And the unknown was driving me crazy. I had done lots of research to this unreleased cone at that time. This cone was the roar of the crowd before it was released.. Those models (in link) hadnt even been hashed on yet.

I have yet to see any bad reviews on this skimmer. And sparky made a great purchase. I know first hand that this skimmer is a real winner.

Yea.... proven body (in link) with a new pump. But new design (cone) to the reef hobby that has been superior. Probably the most sought after design at this point of time.... Give led lights some more time and they will be the new sought after lighting source.

A lot of it has to do with the size of the reaction chamber and dwell time. Pumps may look similar, but may have very different curves. I could give you the equations to work it out to see exactly what it is, but it is rather long and tedious.

Oh ya... and skimmer capacity ratings should be trusted as much as chicken bones.
