I am fairly new to this. I have spent a lot of time reading about skimmers and more I read, less I know what I need.

I have a new 150 gallon Fish Only Tank with a sump under it. The area in the sump I can put the skimmer is 10" x15" and the water is maintained at around 7". I have an external Blueline 40 HD-X pump. I also have some probes floating in styrofoam in the sump and that takes up 3" of the 15" dimension.

Along with the skimmer, I am looking at a chiller and will need room for a Mag 5 or 7 in the sump for that.

The LFS is recommending an AquaC skimmer with a mag 3 pump. Originally he said an ETSS with Mag 7, but then said the AquaC is better.

Can anyone recommend a skimmer that would work for my setup?

    thanks,

    Mike

AquaC skimmers are Great for the money I would go for a Vertex IN-250. What is your budget?

thanks. I am more concerned on the quality and the function. I spent what seems like a fortune on the setup going through the LFS and am trying to get the protein skimmer and chiller on my own.

The sump is one the LFS built. Basically has one open chamber that is 10"x15" available for the skimmer.

I am not sure what is better, try to squeeze one in the sump or go for something like the AquaC. I think there are two rated for 120 gallons that are the Remora (hang on) and Urchin (sump),

I am pretty sure the AquaC he was proposing (we talked on the phone) was one of the two I mention above since he said it comes with a Mag 3 pump.

    thanks for the help.

AquaC are great skimmers, but a Magdrive 3 is too small to run any AquaC skimmer that I know of.

thanks. which Model AquaC would you recommend? I think the smaller ones come with the Mag 3.

    Urchin Pro

But this is also rated for only 120 gallon tank, so that is why I am skeptical on using it on a 150 gallon.

I assumed you where talking about the EV-240. And ya Mag 3 would be too small.

There are 100s of Skimmers out there I would really take a look around and see what more people here have to say.

Always go bigger when it comes to skimmers. I have an AquaC 180 on a 145g system(90/55) and still have some room left over.

thanks. I read too much today so I finally posted here. Outside of the brand and size I pick, is my sump to small for a good size skimmer or should I be looking at an external one?

    thanks again.

I think I have 16 gallons of bioballs in one chamber. then there is an inch or two below and then the second chamber is holding around 5 or 6 gallons of water.
