I posted the same at another site and so far I cant seem to get an answer as to what I have groing in my tank. I've ben battling this stuff for a little over a year now and cant seem to get rid of it.

I've tried peroxide dips, plucking and it only seems to get it pissed off. Can anyone identify what this hairy stuff is? Unlike hair algae, this stuff does not brush off. I've notice it leaving a skeleton behind after sun bleaching the rocks.

It doesnt let anything grow around it, regardless of how litte there is on a rock. It even growths on my crabs and snails. it is a very drack brown with short hairs. no polyps at the end of the strands you see in the pics. the last 3 pics on the last page shows them agitated from the peroxide but did not die off. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Sorry about that. I went on to open a photobucket acct and loaded the pics in my original post. Some one suggested red turf algae. Some what resembles what I have but not totally convinced.

I went on to follow advise of dipping in peroxide for 30+ seconds and its been 3 days now and it actually looks like it flared up and is angry LOL. It was also suggested I use anti aptasia chemicals but problem is it is also growing beside some of my favorite polyps.

    Any advise out there?

How hard would it be for you to remove the rocks?

What type of clean crew do you have?

I can not make an ID need a macro image if possible please.

Ditto on Bryopsis...I have some one a base rock that I can't remove....just don't put any corals right next to it.....i cover it up with sand when i clean the tank but it hass not spread in 2 yrs.....copper did not even kill them when i had a copper accident in my 90 reef.
