I waited about 20-30min for the glue to dry, but that may not have been long enough. I fully agree I did something stupid and should have known better. I just turned the pump off and lifted the overflow tube to stop the siphon. I put my skimmer back on my DT. I think i will do a water change, then see what happens. Thanks for the comments.

if you able to take the sump out or anything else in question, you could clean them and rinse the hell out of it, then rinse it again, and again, and again.

20-30 mins is more than enough. I think it was the mixing of the different waters. Luna

Read his first post, when ever you add any kind of buffering solution, the water always turns cloudy. Luna

I added the buffer after I tested the ph. Here's the time line. I finished plumbing the sump and turned it on. Immediately the water became slightly cloudy, kinda hazy as it is still. I believe that was from the dust/dirt in the pipe that I failed to clean properly. I saw I had a small leak in the return plumbing so I turned the sump pump off and fixed the leak. This was about 1:00pm EST yesterday, the 26. During the rest of the day the corals began to close up and my fish started to act lethargic. I test the water and found my temp a little lower than normal and my ph lower, about 7.9. Also my dkh was at 12. My tank parameters before turning the sump on were dkh about 8, temp about 78 and ph about 8.4. I think it was a combination of the dust/dirt from the pipe irritating the fish and corals and the sudden rush of water from the sump that was at different levels of parameters. Going to do a water change soon, just waiting for the water to heat up. Then see how things look. If still bad, I will set up my 10gal. tank to put what corals and fish I can fit in there, then change out the water in the DT. I also plan on cleaning the pipes and sump out too.

if the water was a white cloud then the Ca,dKH is off. meaning the dKH is to high for the Ca. you could add Ca prior to a water change. but i dont see how that could make things die. ive done it with no adverse effects.

either way, there is really no way of telling what happened, you can only go forward from here.
