This is a hard one. Part of me is concerned that changing too much water in a short period of time could have adverse affects as well. :\

I know. No matter what I do, bad things could happen. If I don't do anything everything could eventually die. If I do do something, such as a water change, it could make things worse in the short term. If I move things into another tank, that could stress them out more. I am just very upset with my self.

I hear ya but mistakes happen, don't be too hard on yourself. I learn through pain too. Are you still running the carbon reactor?

I have the reactor on the sump still, but I have my old HOB filter with carbon in the pouches running on the tank. I actually ran both all yesterday and last night. I just did a 4.5 gallon water change, so we will see what happens.
knocking on wood, but just after the water change, my fish seem to be moving around more, at least for now.

well, the fish ate a little bit better than yesterday. Shrimp still eating. Some of the zoas are out now. (don't want to get too optimistic). I just emptied the sump and there was a fine white powder/bubbles of some sort floating on the top of the bubble trap, so there was something in the water. Im going to clean out the sump and the pipes, clean the pump etc.

Like the others said, I would do anything too drastic after cleaning. Let things slowly settle on their own. Sounds like things might be turning around!

well, here's an update. Right now everything is settling down, the 'storm' is over, not Im just counting casualties. Good news is that my 6 line came out of hiding and is eating and swimming around, so are my clown, yellow tail and yellow watchman. Also, some zoas are opening back up. However, I believe my 3 chromis are dead, haven't seen them, but can't find the bodies either. My trumpets are toast and so is my monti i believe, it is starting to turn white. I thought my clam was done, but it looks a little better, still could be dying, I believe it takes a while for them to actually die. Right now my frogspawn isn't looking too bad, it's closed, but a good closed if that makes sense, my bubble is also closed, but not necessarily a bad closed either. A bunch of hermits and snails died too.
The water has cleared, I believe reef guru was right when he said it was too high of a dkh for the Ca, so I added some Ca and this morning it was much clearer. I cleaned the sump and pipes and will start that back up when everything settles back down, this time I will mix DT water with the new water first. A very valuable lesson learned.

when you did this originally did you allow the new saltwater to mix overnight or did you mix it and use it right away? if you used it right away that might have had something to do with it and make the water cloudy. if not then maybe the ratio was off as mentioned before.

Well, today I finally setup my sump and everything is going well so far. Nothing has closed up this time and the fish are swimming about. It looks much better. On Monday I plan on ordering some corals to replace the ones that died and a few extras. Thanks to all of those who helped.
