I ordered a Nova exreme t5 4x24 SLR... now it's time for bulbs. I'm gonna let my corals acclimate to the stock bulbs, and then I'm gona replace them with better bulbs. I'm looking for good growth but more of a white-blue look. So I'm not looking to mass produce coral, but would like it to grow. This is the combination I was thinking of.

    UVL - 10k
    - Actinic white 12k
    - Super Actinic 420

    Giesemann - Aquablue Plus

    UVL aquasun
    ATI aquablue
    ATI Blue plus
    UVL Super Actinic
    pretty much what you mentioned
has just a slight blue, and has quite a bit of PAR

Will these combinations help prevent nuisance algae. I've heard algae hates these spectrums b/c they're too hot. I started getting some hair algae. I manually removed a lot of it. I think the 6700k bulb currently in my tank could be aiding in that. Also my fuge light was hitting my fixtures reflector and bouncing into the main tank.

the nova bulbs aren't that bad. I use 3 54 watt bulbs of my 6 that are the novas, seem to be ok.

yeah as tangster told me... uvl bulbs are the only thing that makes t5 worth plugging in.

i run a 50/50 split of uvl actinic white and super actinic on tangsters recommendation.

great color for coraline growth, as well as amazing colors from corals as well as great growth rates. honestly i have yet to purchase a coral that looked better under other lights than under the uvl.

and i would jsut get the uvls right away and save yourself an algae outbreak and the time it will take for corals to adjust to new spectrum.

and yeah id say those 6700k are def aiding to your algae.

i say this cause i did the same and waited and there was a fairly long adjustment to the new lighting. as well as i think the nova bulbs fulled an algae out break. to the naked eye the Kelvin was a lil to low for my taste, thou the actinics 460 were nice looking by themselves.

Nice Tank! I live in Buffalo, too. where's your LFS? I've been going to Saltwater Paradise in Tonanwanda. I usually buy water from them, but I think they are not changing their filters.. so I'm gonna be mixing myself now. All b/c of the hair algae in my tank, but there are other factors possibly.. like the 6700k bulb my PC fixture came with, and my fuge light leaching into the tank at night. I'm gonna check out your vid now! Thanks for the advice!

    got my light today

Wow a saturday delivery from DFS! At 8:30 AM! At no charge? I asked them to ship the unit wednesday. It didn't ship til thursday, maybe that's why... thanks! Upon inspecting the fixture, they did send me the right one with the indiviual reflectors.. actually a bent parabolic reflector to simulate individual reflectors.. actually is quite impressive. I'm sure there is only a slight difference. Hmm yay crappy current bulbs.. can't afford it now, but these will be replaced in a couple months with UVLs. No fans on this unit like my PC.. silent running! And no LEDS.. at least I'm not stuck with white LEDS.. I may add a few blue ones. Tonight the new fixture will be setup, my corals placed at the bottom of the tank... I'll post some before and after pics..
