i would love to see a comparison of the uvl actinic v-hor and a regular actinic v-ho with slr.

were did you all see that they are supposed to be faced up.?

i think the point was to do away with reflectors. if they are getting the same par/pur reading as slrs, it would really be nice for those with older nova units like me! plus if they made other temps you could get more bulbs in a smaller space.

i do not really know much about the techs. of the whole thing, but it would seem that if all the light was being focused into the tank directly from the bulb/source it would have a higher par than a t5 with slr . since i would think reflected light would have less par than light coming strait from the source.???

(par might not be the right term to use here?)

my lFS carries giesmanns and uvls , they are always on top of the new products so hopefully i will be trying some soon.!!!!!!

I think the bulbs with the built in reflector are designed for the older type T5 retrofits that don't have a reflector. I can't see them being better than parabolic relectors as far as casting off proper lighting. Hey, who knows?:-/

These look great. I have a marineland T5 setup that has a single sheet type reflector and I'd bet these really boost the light output.

I would agree on the internal reflector. With bad reflectors it should be good, but with good reflectors I think you will get less light out of the bulbs. But it is something that needs to be measured so we know.
