im upgrading my tank from a 37 to a 55 and i bought two t5ho 24" lights. fowlr. my current tank i am running a t5 30". i wonder if these new lights are going to be too much for the fish in the new tank. my 37 is a tall tank, and is 24" tall. the new tank is only 22" tall also, which will equate to brighter light. i plan to use the brackets the lights came with to mount them higher, but im not sure if that will be enough. has anybody made this kind of a change and if so was it ok for the fish? any suggestions? i have no plans to keep corals or invertebrates in the future.

The fish really don't mind the lights that much. It's actually the change from dark to light that frightens them and could stress them out. If you can just have two bulbs come at a time, that will help. There are some fish that may get too stressed if the lighting is too high, but two 24" T5s is nothing.

Unless you have certain deep-water fish light level really doesn't have a big affect on most fish AFAIK. I don't think you'll see any problems.

Even with the HOs, that still is not an overabundance of light. As said above, try to set them up so that they come on in stages from darkness (the dusk to dawn effect). That will lower stress levels from sudden changes in light.

I have over 400 Watts of light on my 45G and still feel that I don't have to much. To much light is hard to do.
