    There is a very good possiblity that the source water is bad.... Have you tested straight tap yet?

    no I haven't.. Should I complete all these tests on conditioned tap water and compare results?

    I would at very least test the tap's NO3 and PO4 levels.. And make sure you are not using a cheap API test kit! :)

    No I'm not using api cos I was told they were inaccurate, I'm using tropic marin, which the guy at my LFS said was the best. I shall test conditioned tap water and compare results.. I will also take a water sample to my LFS and get them to test my water also.

    assumming you didnt use liverock or live sand, that should be how it would spike, but with LR/LS the bacteria is already on the rock so you dont have to wait for a population to grow before you see a them consuming ammonia.

    oh okay, i used live rock and the guy at the LFS assures me they get the best live rock around, even other fish shops have told me to go to my LFS and get rock cos its best so there not just talking it up themselves haha the guy at my LFS said that all 3 being high is usual with such well setup live rock and each one will decrease over the next few weeks till im good to go..lets hope he's correct
