New tank cycle questions

ive been cycling my new 10 g nano for about ahh 8 days, live rock from another saltwater, had amonia spike to about 3.6 then over 3-4 days is now at 0.6 and my nitrates are very high, does this sound right, is my cycle progressing? how far away am i from the end if so? On track? thanks guys

 

Nitrates test high with the presence of nitrITEs and are therefore inaccurate. test ammonia and nitrite until they are both 0 then you can test nitrates. When I cycled my nitrates testing like 40 or 80 when I still ahd nitrite and I was afriad I was in for a long battle due to the tapwater. However was the cycle was done by nitrate was only around a 5ppm

Now if you really want to test nitrates there is a calculation that comes with the redsea nitrate test kit that requires you to know what your nitrites are when testing the nitrate and it will give you your actual reading, but this information is kind of pointless at this point in the cycle.

this point is somewhere in the cycle. Patience my friend you have ammonia nitrite and nitrate and changes in ammonia levels, at least you are in the cycle and not waiting for it to begin or stalled. In my experience ammonia spikes and once you see it start to drop go to zero or near zero pretty quickly, the nitrites take a little longer.
