I have a new 90 gallon, that was started with dead dry rock and sand, I added two raw shrimp to the tank and a week later about 3 lbs. of live rock and about 1 pound of live sand from my LFS. They gave me the sand right out of their tank. The system is 1 1/2 months old and it has not gone through a cycle like I have been reading about, with the spikes in ammonia and the nirites and nirates and so forth. Basiclly the system has remained stable. This my first SW Tank. Whats going on, should I add a hardy fish? Wait longer? New and confussed. Thanks

shrimp could have done its work in cycling without live rock, but the live rock couldnt have seeded the rest of the rock tank. you'll want some worms n pods running riot in there first

you wont get any real dieoff of the rock because the majority of it was base rock. nothing to doeoff in it. same with the sand by the sounds of it. if all your params are staying stable , prob start with your cuc and a hardy fish to start.

Clean Up Crew ;). Hardy fish would be any Damsel or go with an Ocellaris Clown or two depending on their size. ;D
