New Tank, help me out

    hello all i'm new to the site and wonder what i need to start my new tank like everything i was looking at some other peoples stuff among other sites and this is what ive come up with




    Fluval 305 Canister Filter 260gph by Hagen
    250W Jager Aquarium Heater
    AquaC Urchin with Maxi-Jet 1200
    Current USA 48" Nova Extreme T-5 Fixture 2x54W 10K/460

    also LR & LS from LFS

    other from that i have no idea what to get and or if i need that stuff

    i have a 55g tank i recived from a friend also have a 10g tank

    what else would i need to get my tank started

    i have around 500-600 to spend

    i would deff recommend an ro/di unit. it will save you tons of money and leg work,

    your talking about getting this for filling my tank and water changes ?

    i was either gonna go Distilled or tap with like a brita or somthing like that


    i was planning to go to LFS tom. to buy what i need i was just wonding dose this list include everything i need ? and anything i should change or get extra?

    Your going to need powerheads as well. And full testing supplies. For a reef those lights aren't going to cut it. I would look into at least a 4 bulb, ideally 6 bulb set-up to do a reef.

    Not to be a drag or anything, but you are not going to be able to set-up a 55 gallon reef tank for $500-600. Just not going to happen, even if you get all used parts. Expect around 3 times that mark.

    Yes for water changes and topping off and filling your tank you only wanna use good tested ro/di water.Never tap water.

    Also, I should add, you need to make sure from your friend that copper and medications were never used in that tank.
