    OK,
So i decided to swap the Cichlids for a bigger reef.
I am obtaining parts and planning the design.

Here is what I have so far. Please let me know if this is good, bad or what ? Thansk in advance.

-90 Gallon drilled W/ Megaflow Overflow
-30 Gallon long Sump / Fuge, Plumbed like ReefSparky. CHeato, Live Rock Rubble.,. Sponge, and maybe Filter Sock
    -AquaC EV180 Skimmer W/ Mag 7
-? Some TBD return Pump ?
-90 lbs LR, 50 lbs from existing tank. I will add 40 lbs of base then the 50 from old.
-60-90 lbs live sand. Only want 2” deep. Just to the plastic rim. New sand as I cant get to the existing.
    -10w UV filter in sump
    -8x54 T5 lighting
    -Still looking at RO/DI options.

It will replace this tank, but use the same stand

Not sure, but I strogly believe it helped my fish. Granted today my water isn't pristine so I like the added protection.

Maybe when I switch to the new equipment and RO/DI, it wont be needed. Not sure really.

    Thanks

    Excellent choice in skimmers.

Your going base rock. Another wise choice

Now, with the live sand, it seems to me I read somewhere there was a trouble zone between the typical one inch shallow sand bed and the three inch DSB. I am probably way off here, but I swear I read something about this somewhere.....Help on this?

I have never heard of UV being bad for a reef. I am a newbie though. I have UV and run it on occation just to keep things operational. I have seen no problems.

Excellent lighting choice. Are you going Tek?;D

ITO the RODI, AIRWATERICE is a sponsor here and has given some very good business to 3reefers. You may want to check them out. I hear their customer service is second to none.

Good job. Sounds like you are on the right track to me.

I would only use the UV in times of an ich outbreak. NO other.(IMO) It kills the good stuff as well as the bad.

what about 1lb per gallon, what matters is the biological function of the sand bed.

uv kills all bacteria, good and bad, ive never used one on my reef tanks, fish tanks maybe.

do you have any unfriendlies, are you going to nuke it?

not really true, what about bb tanks or dsb.

    a must

Here is some of my reasoning.

I have out grown the 46 HOB setup and want to go big tank / sump.

I cant handle more tanks in the house, so I am sacrificing the 90 gallon cichlid tank.
The 90 gallon in not drilled, and we seem to be 50/50 with HOB or Drilled. I am playing it safe this time and listen to the old timers on 3reef and going drilled. The LFS will trade my tank for the new MF 90 for +100.00.

my 46 has 50lbs of live rock now that will eventually be transferred. I bought an additional 40 lbs of base rock to add to it. My shrooms are actually doing good and stuck to the rock so I want to keep them.

Ich has me so enraged that I can’t think of what I would do if it came back. Since the UV, nothing.

Normally I would add 1lb per gallon, but two things.
    1. I dont like the look of the sand coming past the rim.
    2. I thought I read here, that DSB actually became a nitrate factory ??

    Thanks, Good feedback

I have looked at the Current USA Nova Extreme and TEK.
In both cases I need to figure out the Moon LED, I must have. I love the look at nght.

I have a question here for the Typhoon and an email out to AWI. If it can do what I need it to I will convert over.

    Thanks

Dude, you can DIY moon lights pretty easily. They don't need to be built into the light fixture.
