I just picked up a 92G AGA corner bowfront tank to replace my 72G bowfront. The corner unit is perfect for my pool table room and its got built in overflows and came with a sump and return pump. I'm getting some LED lights and away i go.

The problem is that the stand is the exact same height as my old one. Which is OK but not great. I want it higher so i don't have to bend down to look at the tank. I'm 6' tall and get tired of bending over just to look level with the tank. My co-worker has a really nice tank and stand and it sits up quite a bit higher. He uses a stool to stand on when he reaches into the tank. i'm ok with that too.

Question is, how do i add the height? My best idea so far is to cut two pieces of plywood into the pie shape of the stand and then just sandwich some 2x4 leg posts in between. I can do a bunch of legs and just make them all the exact same length so its real sturdy. i'd like to add maybe 12-18" i think to the height.
What are peoples thoughts on this idea? possible problems?

Good idea, maybe make a step or two in front for doing maintenance.

Make sure to get some lateral bracing in there..... otherwise, I like the idea.

Now you're giving me some ideas. I'm 6'4" with a really short stand. Drives me nuts. You may already be planning it this way, but I'll say it anyway. You should build the extra height on the bottom of the stand. This will elevate your sump for easier access as well as the tank.

Yeah my stand is like 28" tall and I was thinking of doing another 12-18". So I would be 46" tall on the high end of my plans. The tank itself is 24" tall I just want the top to be around my height. My friends tank is about my height and the canopy makes it so I can't even look down on the tank without a stool. I find that most impressive :D

Jon: Not sure what you mean by lateral bracing? You mean that 4 x 4 legs would be wobbly? Even if I had like a dozen legs? I'm not planning on making the bottom part storage, just a platform for the stand.

how tall are you trying to make the "platform"?
2x4's will be strong enough, you just need to look at how they build tub surrounds for these big spa tubs everyone has now, the framework should be basically identical. the plywood top once screwed in place will prevent movement, even stronger with a matching bottom.
