Yes 6 inches is a lot of overhang. Why risk thousands of dollars worth of Equipment and Livestock for a less than two-hundred dollars in wood?

If its just a matter of setting up a sump/fuge, why not get an overflow box? The tank does not have to be drilled

i suppose you could modify the stand but if you were going to to something that would add 6 inches to it you might as well make a new one

That's exactly what I was thinking. I have been told that the stand needs to be perfectly level, so after you make up your plans, you will want to have someone cut your 2X4s for you. And judging from the footprint, it is going to be a big tank, so the weight bearing part of the stand is going to be 2x4s and not just plywood like mine. I would not trust anything over 90g to a plywood stand. And don't forget to do center braces across from front to back in order to prevent sway. There are stand designs on the web if you look for them. If you are in anyway handy with wood, I would make it a DIY project.
