I have a 28 gallon nano cube. How long does it take for it to cycle or when can I put something in it? Live sand and live rock in it for 2 weeks so far.

on average a cycle can take 4-6 weeks, but different systems can vary, if you put in true live sand and live rock it could take less time.

you want your ammonia and nitrites to read 0 before you put anything in

+1 make sure to test before adding live stock and add slowly, meaning 1 fish or paired clowns, then nothing for at least a week, then again another fish and so on and so forth.

you want to give the chance to your beneficial bacteria to be able to take and break down the organics produced by your bioload. too much organics at once at the bacteria wont be able to process it in time leading to a potential poisoning of your fish.

you joined in dec 2010? no prior tank keeping experience to this?

So the tank is going well. I have about 20 pounds of live rock some snails and 2 hermit crabs. I noticed the snails wanting to hang out at the top of the tank. Is that anything to worry about?

Snails like Nerites are tidal snails IIRC. They usually like to be out of the water during the day, and in the water cruising the tank at night.
