So how is it after running the filter over night?

Just checked, it might have cleared a bit, but I did stir up the sand so I could get some more out through the mechanical filtration. But it didn't clear up much though, I am pretty stumped.

This is find cloud like particles that give the water a haze look. I think Ill go to the store today and pick up the find cotton floss like filter baton stuff and put it in the filter as well. Maybe that will help clear it out. Short of letting it settle again for 7 days and doing a big water change really slowly as to not disturb the sand bed I am out of ideas.

I would think about a micron filter of something. Don't know how fine filter socks come in. Your problem sounds like suspended micron level stuff not large particulate.

I also would go ahead and get your salt in.

Could I put my live rock in without any adverse affects even if there is micron level sand dust in the tank?

As well do you think I will run in to a problem when it comes time to put the remainder of the Power Heads in etc, is it just going to turn my tank in too a murky mess if the dust just settles?

I would go ahead with LR as well. Many people actually put the LR in when the tank is dry to get everything glued and supported and stable.... then add sand and then add water.

I'd get it all in there. Most folks also rearrange their rocks several times until they are happy. So, you'll problably be stirring things up anyway.

Well very surprising actually, I guess something to do with specific gravity maybe? But after adding the salt in, the tank cleared over night. I'm going to move the LR over to this tank tomorrow, that will will be good.

Can I use latex gloves that you would use for washing dishes in the tank saftley. I want to use them to hold the live rock. The other thing is some of the live rock has some old hair algae I want to get off first, can I just use a brush and rub all the rock to get it clean? Will it kill the live rock?

    Thanks everyone!

    Latex gloves are fine.

Scrubbing the rocks is fine but on scrubbing the rocks make ABSOLUTELY sure that there are NO soaps or chemicals on your brush. I went and bought a scrub brush that I only use with the aquarium. It won't hurt the rock at all. Live rock is just porous rock with bacteria in it. So if your rock is dry and just sitting there, it is "dead".

Have you read about cycling your tank?? That is the process you are about to start.

By the way, the single most important thing is to not rush and add fish or anything else too fast once you start cycling.

Yeah I've done many fresh water tanks. I bought a scrub brush earlier today for use with just this. My live rock is all live and in another tank, just has some older algae growth that has been slowly dieing off and I wanted to scrub it off before I put it in the new tank. I'll do that tonight I think and move the rock over.
