OK, I think I see now. So I can install this default bulkhead,
    [IMG]

And connect it via a flex vinyl tubing with clamp on each end.

Or get a new bulkhead that supports stiff pvc.

    Correct?

So what is wrong with the flex tubing ?

    Cheers

i'd get a new bulkhead that can connect straight to pvc, water will have less restrictions with a straight to pvc bulkhead from your overflow

I was afraid someone would say that..
So lets say I do find the right bulkhead, something like this one threaded-
Standard Threaded Bulkhead Fitting - 1 inch, Standard > Bulkheads > Plumbing Parts > Saltwater Aquarium Supplies

    or slip
Double Slip Bulkhead Fitting - 1 inch, Double Slip > Bulkheads > Plumbing Parts > Saltwater Aquarium Supplies

Eitherway I will have the same problem. What do you use to connect one to the other ? The removable union thinggy does directly attach to this bulkhead. You want to be able to remove the hose for maintenance correct ?

    Sump Baffles

Dry fit with baffles. Almost to drawing. I forgot the internal pipes pushes over the skimmer.

I wont seal pipes or baffles until the order comes in, hopefully soon.

Not much progress but picked up a few of the toys today.
Got the 2 Koralia 3 pumps and the Redsea wave maker pro. Also got the black background in today and ordered the light.

Some more of the plumbing came in. I will likley work on this tomorrow.

Just waiting for the big order to come in.

    The Plan Review

OK, I know I am at least a week away from swapping tanks , but I wanted to have my plan get the once over.

    The goal :
The goal is to get the inhabitants from my 12 month old 46 gallon, into the new 110 gallon.

    The Plan:
The plan will be to fill up the new tank, fill it with tap water and let everything run for a few days to test for speed of flow, leaks and all pump functionality.
Once everything is fully tested, I will drain and prepare for the refill.

I will be getting new substrate because I am done looking at the salt and pepper sand that I have now. Haven’t decided what kind yet though, something white or pink, very fine grain. I will “Seed “ the tank with a few cups of my current sand, I will just hide it at the bottom.

At this point I will fill about 20 gallons from the existing tank. And refill the 46 gallon tank. I will layout my new base rock and get a look at the design. I will also be taking the live rock that is in the current tank out to make sure I get all the right pieces in the design. Once I am happy with the design, and using putty to glue the rocks as needed, I will fill the rest of the tank with the RO water. If my new Typhoon III is not up and running yet, I will likely buy 120 gallons of RO/DI at the local store. Now I will add salt and test until my SG is where I want it. I can’t really do 5 gallon pre mixed barrels in this tank. Too many too high, so I figure adding salt to the water will have to do.

I will let the water settle and flow around for a bit at this point while I install heaters, pumps, wave maker, ect. Test water parameters and wait until it’s ready.

FFWD two days, test water params and look to add inhabitants.

Well that’s all I have right now.

    Summary –
I transferred 20 gallons of used water, 50 lbs of used LR, 3 cups of substrate from a 46 gallon into a 110.

    What do you think ?
Would you do anything different ?
Should I transfer fish over slowly or all at once ?
I will likely cycle again but will it be small enough?

    \Cheers

    Plumbing

    Me again..
I installed the plumbing kit, background and did a DIY screen cover for the overflow.

MF Plumbing Kit - My First Ever..

Sweet. This was a gutter gaurd, cost 1.50. Even has a channel lock in the back. Fit like a glove..

Well, almost, slight mod to fit the return pipe. Probably should have cut the return pipe by 1/4" but this works too. Even added a few drops of silicon to the Y return tube to keep it quiet.

That should be it until the big order comes on Monday...
