What is the best size for a beginner in saltwater? i already know alot about freshwater fish and everything that goes along with them because i have eight well built freshy tanks been running for about 1 and a half. so i have some experience but none in saltwater.

Look at your pocketbook. That will determine what size your first tank will be. In terms of size alone, I have found the larger tanks are easier to take care of. More room for error because of more water volume. Just know that it is going to get expensive fast. Plan out exactly what you want. A fish only. A reef set up. Those are to two main choices. FO is cheaper. Reef needs better lighting, better skimming, more live rock. Just do the research dude. Get onto Craig's list and see what you can find for a used aquarium.

OmarD, can you post you usual bunch of links for him? That is extremely helpful. Thanks. John.

The bigger the better I say. Like John said more room for error. I have recently set up a 75 gallon but I already wish I had something bigger. Maybe when I hit the lottery. But again the bigger the tank the longer it takes for something to go wrong IMO

Heading off for college also plays a role. Who will take care of it when you leave? Will you sell it....you won't get as much out of it when you sell it that you put into it! The bigger the better yes but look at the whole equation. FW is a lot easier to move also if you decided to take a tank with you. That would be a tough one for me!

You may just want to do a nano to get the hang of it then. You can take a nano to your dorm room (if they allow it). Put it on your desk and use it for stress therapy.

College huh? Good job. You cannot go wrong with higher education.

I have my 75 gallon in my dorm, I would check to see if you are allowed to have a fish tank in the dorm, some schools limit it to 10 gallons, but no limit at my school.
