Hello everyone, always loved reading these forums as a guest and decided to join...I have a 20gallon salt tank with 2 black mollies, 2 emerald crabs and an Ocellaris clown and 12lbs of LR (I'll post pics soon).....4 quick questions and any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Is a 10-15% water change sufficient enough?

    2. How often should I do the change? 1 week or 2?

    3. Do I have room for another fish?

Like I said any advice or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Water changes depend on the parameters and Nitrate levels. A weekly 10% water change is average in most aquariums. Some people using nitrate reactors, or a refugium or algae scrubber may change their water much less frequently.

Hi and welcome to 3reef!! I do 10-15 percent WC in my 75, my personal preference is to change water out every nine days unless I notice an issue with levels creeping up, then I'd do changes more frequently until issue is resolved. Maybe you'd have room for a goby of some sort that doesn't swim around a lot, the clown gobies are small and like to perch on rock ledges, they can be found in citrus color and green, very cute. Some other goby varieties are small, too and like to dig in the sand.

there is a fish calculator in the menus on the left.

I have only done 1 10% water change in 6 months doing another one shortly...not saying this is what you should do JMO

Welcome to 3reef my fellow reefer.

    1. 10%-15% is the norm
    2. How often? your gonna get multiple answers b/c everyone has their own strategies. IMO, with the bio-load that you have, which isnt much, you can get away with once a month. But before you get into that routine, you should test your water. Test for NH3, No2, No3 and Po4.
    3. Depending on your filtration system, you can add more.

    BTW, what part of NY?

Thank you everyone....I needed some advice from experienced people...Appreciate the welcomes also =).

I actually do a daily Nitrite and Ammonia every other day and my filtration is an Aquaclear 70 w/ Biomax and Chemi-pure.

1&2. In a smaller system such as yours a 25-30% change every 2 weeks is appropriate.

    3. 2 more small fish can be added, however, I don't know anyone who has acclimated Mollies to salt water so I don't have experience or knowledge of how they will interact with other salt water species.
You could add a couple more maybe a Royal Gramma and a Six Line Wrasse might be a good combo.
