Hi, I am planning on starting coral in my 28 nano cube. I currently have an in tank refugium, one peppermint shrimp, 2 clowns, one fire goby, 5 hermits, and 1 snail. What do I need to get before I start coral. Livestock or hardware? Or really anything?

    Thank you

how much flow do you have in the tank? do you have a skimmer? what coral are you planning to keep? what is your current lighting setup? CF? LED? or HQI?

How many gph of flow do you have in the tank not counting the return pump? With LED you can keep anything but if you want to get into SPS then you will need the skimmer and will probaly will have to dose calcium, magnesium and such.

For now as long as you have a fuge then most corals will be ok, like some LPS and all softies will do fine in your tank. You most likely have enough flow so that should be ok, all I recommend is to place the corals low in the tank and slowly raise them if they are not doing well and also to prevent photoshock and bleaching.

I bought two small hydor koralia(425 flow) as well as upgrading my stock pump with a Rio 6 for my 29 gal biocube and find it to be great flow for my corals. I like the small koralia's because they don't look huge in the tank and provide adequate flow. I also added the Aquatic Life Internal Mini Skimmer which fits perfectly in the first chamber of my biocube. Then I use a media basket in chamber 2 where the bioballs used to be with filter floss on top, then chemi-pure elite in 2nd level and purigen in the bottom. In the space left over from where the media basket sits I have chaeto and power it with a 6500k daylight bulb you can get at any hardware store. All levels are perfect so far(knock on wood). Oh and not sure if I ever should but I do put in some activated carbon above the Rio 6. Good Luck. I only have softies and a few LPS but all doing great so far, I don't have high powered lighting or led's yet(working on that next).

emulate his setup, sounds like its working well for him. Oh and just start with them low and if they arent doing well move them up. You have a ton of light in your tank and putting the coral too high could hurt it and maybe even kill it.

i have the 28g nano cube too and the stock heads together have 532gph, but if you have the wavemaker on its only 266. maybe that will help
