Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I know this is going to sound stupid from someone with experience in this hobby, but I need recommendations on a skimmer.

Now I'm setting up a 33 gallon cube as a reef tank (curing the live rock now) and using a standard 10 gallon tank as a sump. I don't want to hang a skimmer on back of the tank. I want it in the sump.

I have a PM Bullet 1. It came off of my old tank -- a 70 gallon. That tank is history -- it was built into a wall and we moved.

The bullet seems like it would be a problem in a little 10 gallon tank with all that water flow (haven't actually tried it). One thing I'm considering is finding a different injector for slower water flow, but that's probably not pracitcal. Is it?

Another consideration is just getting a new skimmer.

I read some people like the coralife skimmers and some hate them.

    Any recommendations?

The bullet will be great if you can find the space for it. All you would have to do is put a valve on it to attenuate the flow through the skimmer.

The bullet can set on top of the sump if you have the height ? That would be all the skimmer you need for sure :) But if you want a smaller simmer look into a Red Sea Berlin Classic or a turboflotor both ate really goos skimmers and have a smaller foot print If you can find a old Excalibur then that would be perfect a great skimmer that was brought out and killed by another skimmer company.. I have two the SV1 and SV2 and the smaller one ran a 125 and a 90 for yrs . I have one at the shop now that ws on a old 90..

    Thanks for the recommendations!

I love my bullet, cause it looks impressive, and makes a cool sound. It impresses friends who don't even know what it is. Wish I had enough height for it on top of the sump, But my tape measure says it would total 12" plus 19" and my stand (home made) would allow 26". Not enough room.

Not sure where the cut off is for the bullet on restricting flow. Is there some point in lower flow where it just 'stops working'?

Don't you just hate that kind of stuff??? Argh!

The turboflotor 1000 looks like it would be a nice option. I like how I can run the overflow into it. 250 gallons per hour, that's just about perfect.

Oh, by the way, my last tank was a 58 gallon, not a 70 gallon. Don't know why I typed 70. But just want to be correct for whatever reason.

I know this has got to be a lame subject for most here, but any other recommendations would be warmly received.

    Thanks again!!

You mentioned the red sea 'berlin classic'. Do you think their newer model would also be ok? ...

I have a Coralife skimmer for a 65 gallon that is on my 58 gallon. Sucks a lot of nasty stuff out and hangs off my 20 gallon long refugium fine.

As a side note, I emptied the collection cup, my first time ever doing this, and my God did that smell lol!

I ended up buying an AquaC. Looks pretty cool for what I want.

Thanks to everyone who provided input.

asm's are good to could go with the G-1 or the coralife works fairly well, their a pain to get tuned initially but once they get broken in and setup they do a fairly good job, I have the 125g rated one on a 58g tank and it does a good job

    Update ...

Here's my new AquaC EV120 at work. It's about 24 hours now and it started breaking in about an hour ago. I'll need to begin optimizing the air and water flows (you can see the collection is a bit watery).

What a wonderful start right out of the box before optimizing anything! I'm looking forward to this.

One thing I didn't know before I bought it is that the gate valve is on top. This helps to stabilize the water inside the skimmer box at a consistent level, ceteris paribus. How cool is that?

By the way, I bought this at MarineDepot.com -- a class act. Recommend them highly.
