    Hi,
I am a newbie to Salt Water aquariums, have had fresh water fish aquariums most of my life. I have started a 75 gallon salt water tank, which is cycling now FOWLR and I have an opportunity to get a 125 gallon tank at a heck of a buy..... still debating lol....... I am wanting to buy an RO unit before I start another tank, so will be researching these forums, I know what they do.. and why they do it but not sure about how you hook them up. or if you hook them up to a faucet and turn them on,,, how long will it take to get a bucket or container full of water... can anyone enlighten me a bit.

    Welcome to 3reef.
Getting a RO or RODI is the way to go.
You can hook them up to a faucet in your house or to the faucet outside.
Or even have them plumbed into your water line which is more work.
They tupically come with what you need for the faucet connection.
As far as how much water you can make depends on the unit you purchase.
I beleive i have a 60pd. Thus it makes about 30 Gallons Per day.
As far as the good and bad water it produces I end up with about 10% good and 90% waste water. So when i make water I have a long dube for the drain so I can water the yard and do not have to worry about overflowing buckets. I typically turn mine on before I go to bed and when i wake up I have a 30 gall tank ready the for top off water or to mix new salt.
    Hope that helps.

    Welcome to 3reef!
Best of luck with your tank(s)!
As for the RO/DI filtration goes-make sure it is both RO and DI as some of the cheaper styles are RO only!! Their are various sizes depending on the # of gallons per day you desire! 50gpd is all I have and is more than enough for both of my tanks! It is very easy to set-up and comes with directions-hooks right up to kitchen sink etc. Just need a bucket to store the good water and a place to drain the bad water, usually the drain in the sink.
