    Dont use the stone from Home Depot. You have no idea what may have leached into it in the past.
    Order up some base rock. It is completely safe, all it really is is live rock that has dried out. Much cheaper than live rock too.
    And plus 1 on not dosing anything.

    There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting the 8x54W. EXCEPT....it will overhang the tank. Your 55g is probably 12 inches in depth. The NEP is 14 inches. It looks as if the lunar lights take up a few inches on the end, so you may have to just keep those off. They would be unusable. Also, you may have to McGyver the footing to fit the tank. The good thing is, if you were to upgrade, that would easily light up a 90g.

    On the other hand. The 6x54W appears to fit perfectly.

    $2/lb is a good price. Base rock is the way to go.

    +1 on getting BR from the LFS. NOT HOME DEPOT!!!! +2 on not dosing anything.
