    Hello all,

New guy, to the forum and to reefing, from central FL. I currently have a 55g with a 20g sump, Octopus 150 skimmer, couple fish and some beginner corals. Starting to get ready to setup my 150g so looking around on all the different forums is a must. I have lurked a few times and figured I should go ahead and join, maybe, just MAYBE I will be of some help to the newbies like myself.

    Thanks for this forum,
    Kyle

    welcome to 3reef Kyle!

you say you're new, how long have you had your 55g up for? Congrats on the 150g can't wait to see it get started. Better start a build thread and post some pictures ;)

You'll find a lot of help on this site, it's been an invaluable tool for me so far

I have had my 55 running for 2 months...hahaha so VERY new. But, I do lots of research and scour forums reading and reading. Plus being in FL, a lot of people have saltwater tanks. I know 4 other close friends, and they have finally gotten me into it. I am a stay at home dad of 4 kids, so I do get to spend some time reading and learning about the systems.

I am actually going to sell the 150, just came to this decision today, and go with a 180 or 210. I just like the dimensions of those much much better, and glad I haven't started on the 150 yet.

I will start a build thread here for sure, once I get going with a new tank

    Welcome to 3reef.

Get some pics of the setup... or else none of us believe your outlandish claims of this tank. lol.

    Thanks

not sure how "outlandish" a newbie 55gal is lol? Unfortunately I only have my phone camera and it is, mediocre at best.

sold my 150 today! Glad I did it too, I would've hate to set it up and be unhappy with it. Looking to find a 180 or 210 (I want 72x24x at least 24" tall)

I found a 180 fairly local, acrylic with center overflow, dual drains and returns, round corners, euro braced for $450 but still haven't heard back from the seller yet.

    Welcome to 3reef Kyle.

Personally I think the if the bigger tank is what you want, go for it do not settle.

The 55 gallon looks like a great start. I am a fan of black sand although I have never had it.

I will not settle, that's for sure, I'm getting to old to do that.

I really liked the black sand as well in my mind, but being this is my first tank I didn't see it later down the road. I personally am not going to use it again, think of it like this, which shows more "flaws" a white car or black car? The black does. Anything that falls off some rock, or the snails and hermits knock off shows bigtime. Granted I have dry base rock mostly, so it's white. I am going to use pure white in my big tank, and keep it super clean lol shallow sand bed! I will make up for it with a deep in the fuge.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed that we land this acrylic 180!

*picked up another 55 yesterday so I could go ahead and start building the sump/fuge. Couldn't pass it up for $20, I live on CL*
