Hi everyone, I'm just getting into the stony corals. Mainly LPS. I purchased a small frag of trumpet coral with 5 or so heads and I just had a quick question about actinics only.

At night time when my actinics are the only thing on, are the stony corals supposed to close up almost completely to where I can see their skeleton, or is there something wrong? Maybe because I just added it to the tank and it could be stressed? I can see it's small sweeper tentacles out, but I just had to ask.

    Thank you.

They shouldn't completely recede. Mine "deflates" a little bit and the sweepers come out at night with just moon lights on.

My Blue candy cane won't open when any light is on, even the blue led moon lights. My green ones will open some though in the dimmer light.

When I first got my trumpet it would do the same thing but with no sweeper tenticles out. It did this for about a week and then eventually throughout the day and I was starting to wonder that maybe it was dying, then one night noticed that one of my stupid hermit crabs was sitting and picking at it!! Which was really making it upset. Got rid of the electric blue hermit and replaced them with dwarf red legs, then my trumpet started coming back and now looks great. But for the first week expect your trumpet to be a little outta whack, even if nothing is bothering it. It takes a little while to get to know what is normal and what isn't normal for your particular corals. I have 2 frogspawn and both act completely different when it's time for lights out. And they are both very healthy and right next to eachother. Just get to know your coral.
