Hey guys I was suppose to setup a softies only tank but just couldnt resist buying An acropora (brown with green tips 1") frag, Favite brain green red and i got a free frag of pagoda coral. I bought them coz i was getting them in exchange for my mushrooms and zoas.
Acro is recieving a good flow and is doing well since 5 days now. brain is doing good as for now and pagoda just came yesterday got ot for free coz it was 85% dead. so fraged it and kept on the rock and the polyps are extending.

    Here are my questions:
    1) Im using red sea salt (not red sea coral pro) so will just regular water changes be sufficient? iv heard from many that if u using redsea coralpro salt and do 5%WC every week, u dont need to add anything. i dont have RSCP currently.
2)Can i use Kalk in topup water and continue with WC using red sea salt? will i need to dose mag as iv also heard that kalk depleats mag levels. So should i dose Kent tech M weekly?
3)I wana keep it as simple as possible. so please advice. i dont like crowding my tank with corals and fishes as it spoils the beauty so the lesser the better.

Here are the coral pics and my tank thread:

Congrats on the new corals. :)

To know whether you need to dose anything we need values of Ca/alk/mg.

Usually just adding a frag or two of LPS and SPS does not warrent dosing when regular water changes are done.

I have never used the salt mix you are currently using but suspect based on others experience with it that you should be fine.

Again it all hinges the utilization of the big 3 and your current values.

Corailline is correct. Start with your regular water change routine, and continue to monitor the big three. If you find they are dropping faster than water changes can keep up, then you have the option of doing larger water changes, dosing kalk, or dosing 2 part.

But, I suspect that a couple of frags of SPS/LPS will not require dosing. Just keep monitoring for now. And congrats on the finds!

Kool guys..... thanks. my Cal is stable at 360 as per my JBL test lab i know it low but the fact is that my corals are not bleaching, instead the dead tissues are recovering and its looking wy better in just 5 days. Kh is 8 and mag is 1250. i dont know why they are doing well at these range. either my test kit is not good enough or maybe the hard corals are so less that they are not eating the cal fast enough.

Parameters look pretty good a Mag of 1250 is great and an alk of 8 is also really good, closer to 10 is ideal but we cant always be perfect. The CA is a little low but not low enough to cause any immediate issues, I use corallife salt and it mixed up around 350. I started dosing aquavitro calicifcation to raise my CA to 420 over the course of a week and my coralline algae growth has really shown improvement so I can only imagine the lps and sps should also appreciate the increased CA. You might want to look into a calcium additive but its not urgent
Good luck with the frags they are addictive :)

Wait and test. If its consistently low then dose to your sump. Kalk dosing in top off can be inconsistent... ie based off of relative humidity, temperature etc.
