picked up a used 120g acrylic tank from a local guy, and time to start setting it up. first thing i got to do is clean it, its got major coralline algae on the sides/back, any cool trick to clean that off would be great

got tank, stand, canopy, sump, Coralife Turbo C 1090 pump, Dolphin Amp Master 3000 (for closed loop), and Gamma UV Sterilizer 15watt all for only 500 bucks, so i was thrilled as you can imagine. not sure if ill use UV sterilizer since i have never used one before but i might try it out see how it goes.

also found a tiger cuc hiding in overflow, tank had only been down for about 3 days, and he is looking like hes ok hanging out in a small 5.5g i use as hospital tank.

next up adding supports in crawl space just to make sure tank stays in my living room.

I have found that hot water works great for most of it then a credit card for the stubborn stuff.

The sump looks like it has a homemade extra compartment?
is that true or am i looking at it wrong?

    Nice purchase!

yea the sump is kinda crazy custom thing. its got a 10x12 compartment in the front for skimmer then 4, YES 4, sets of baffles between skimmer and return pump (someone hated micro bubbles), the fuge is a seperate box that fits over the baffle section(it was way too smelly to Bring in house yet, so it not in pic).

finished putting a 4x6 joist with 4- 2x6 cross beams under where tank is going, so i no longer have to worry about my floor.

On LFS recommendation I filled the tank with water then added 2 gallons of vinegar and a old powerhead, he swears after 24 hours ill be able to wipe coralline off with a rag, we will see.

tomorrows all about cleaning everything up and take some pics of it clean, and I'm gonna see if any of the LFS have dry rock, so i don't have to wait so long for it, if not I'm gonna get the reef cleaners rock since John rocks

after the cleaning and such I get to do the fun part and re-plumb everything the way i want it, and so that its can be dismantled for cleaning.

i really really wanted a decent sized tang, and a mandarin so when I saw the tank up for sell, i said "hmm hardwood flooring or a bigger tank" easy choice :cheesy:

Not a bad Idea. lol I have far to many decent sized tangs in my 120g. I skipped the smaller fish for the most part.

vinegar soaking is amazing for coralline removal, its only been about 15 hours and its only thickest areas with even a trace left, by tonight the tank should be clean with pretty much no effort. off to look for some rock right now, hoping to find something in town.
