I've seen aptasia before, and this doesn't look like aptasia. Hitchhiker that's spread on the bottom of a piece of liverock that I just reorganized. Anyone out there know what I'm looking at?

That actually looks like the skeletal remains of a Cyphastrea or similar LPS.

It's definitely soft to the touch - and has spread out from one stalk to 12 in about a month.

Could definitely be. Weird formation for them. My fear was some kind of majano, but I'll just keep an eye and see if it goes beyond its little cluster.

    I'm a sucker for hitchhikers.

Although strange, I'd also guess sponge- possibly a rare type. Definitely doesn't appear to be any type of pest anemone.

Not Majano, I know them well.

You're looking for something that shares a common growth formation, a colonial type of growth.

Pest anemones are individual they do not share a base type of structure.
