Ok so i am starting up a reef tank and so far only have Zoas (and i hope recovering from shipping pulsing xenia) with an Ocelaris clown, maroon clown, and a Yellow tang. My question is i have a condylactis anemone, will this guy start causing problems if I want to start building up the reef more and more or will it be fine? The anemone hasnt moved since i got it and now that i put the xenia at the highest point in the tank it seems to be moving from where its been and up the rocks suddenly. :-/

How old is the tank? Condys eat fish so that would make me want to get rid of it in my book..also how big is the tank.. I gonna assume way to small for the tang if its sure first tank. Hopefully you started huge :) !

    lol..........+3.
You should wait AT LEAST 6-8 months prior to considering an anemone. This will allow your paremeters to settle down and become more stable.

what size is your tank and how long has been up? You will find your maroon will host your anthia more then likely once it starts growing. I dont have an anemone and my clowns always find something to host........ie sun corals, star polyps, etc. Still cool to watch and not the risk of an anemone.

PS..........pictures are mandatory on this site! :)

Also nothing will host in a condy i had one once and from my experience the are aggressive and will eat any fish that gets too close. Also most anemone's require the same type of water quality as sps corals do

I will actually disagree because I had a standard clown that lived in a Haitian condy for 2 years until the anemone decided to go in the power head and died. My clown got quite depressed for a while and never took home to another anemone

My ocillarius clowns hosted a condy for several years and now the same pair hosts in a LTA. My clowns may be an exception to the general rule, but a blanket statement that nothing hosts in a condy is incorrect. Also, I had my condy for three years and it never ate another fish. All fish were 1-2" and thr Condy was huge. That being said, I still agree with the above comments. I would return the Condy. They don't look great, IMO, and they sting the junk out of coral. I'd suggest you get a bubble tip anemone (BTA) down the road, once your tank is more established.
Also, as asked in a previous post, what's your tank size? A tang needs around 100g to be healthy.

    Wow this thread.
Ok. ANY anenome can eat a fish if the wrong kind get caught in it, not just a condy. I've had both a sebae and an rbta trap and eat fish. I've also witnessed a carpet take one.One of the inherent risks of keeping one in a community tank.
And clowns will find almost any host. Magfloat, powerhead, heater, and any anemone, including condies.
The condy will only pose a risk if it decides to move. The easiest thing to do is keep corals to a minimum, wait for the tank to mature, add the anenome, wait for it to get settled, then stock corals.
But I would add another vote to rid the anenome. Though the condy is the easiest of all, anemones are hard to keep, and if they go, they can take your entire tank with it.
The biggest thing I see wrong is the maroon with a false perc. Very bad idea, they will begin to fight, and that false perc will lose. Decide which species you would like to keep and take the other back.
