    Hey everyone -

    Wow this site is awesome!!!

Well my reef tank is exactly 1 year and 1 month old and never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever have this much trouble or hardship. I have been doing fresh water tanks for the better of 25 years. Yet in 13 months I have nearly strangled my "short circuited" Yellow Tang, just started on building my 3rd sump, lost my wonderful green dot polyps, five huge mushrooms and all my live rock turned white (on the road to recovery finally starting to get growth on the live rock again) and survived several starfish population explosions.

I was ready to convert my 75g reef back to a blood discus tank when my wonderful sweetheart convinced me not to give up, rather seek out help. So here I am and hope that with the help of others I can make the next 25+ years better than the first 13 months.

Again this is an awesome site!!

Howdy! and welcome to 3Reef, for starters you need your advance reef test kit and then magnesium that you need to purchase separately!

    Hey,
    How are ya?
Sorry to hear about your problems, but just to let you know...you are not alone in that department! We have all experienced one problem or another from time to time in our marine endeavors. This is all part of the learning experience that we are faced with, and depending on how quickly we recognize, react and alter negative outcomes, no matter how small that we endure, will often times determine our success or failure as a conscientious aquarist in this fascinating, entertaining and rewarding hobby.
So, without further ado, welcome to 3eef and best of luck to you here on 3reef and with the marine aquarium.
Asking questions and reading will help to ensure your success, and that of your livestock residing in your aquarium!
    Good Luck!

And to add on what CR has said, which is hard b/c he's very well spoken. Welcome to 3reef, we all have shared your tragady at one time or another, big or small. The trick is to get up and keep on reefing and learn from your mistakes. I hope we(3reef) can help you with your journey through this obsession/addiction and rake the benefits. Luna

Welcome to 3reef. We have all been through the ups and down of reefing. Just hang in and ask lots of questions. What are your tank specs and water params.

It is such a refreshing and good feeling to hear about the many success stories that fellow aquarists have shared and encountered by spending time here on 3reef!

Yeah I was telling tangster the other day if I knew about this site a couple years ago I would have never entrusted a Lfs to look after a previous tank.

Here is a little more information about project x -

    • 75 gallon tank
    • 20 gallon sump
    • Coral Life skimmer - rated at 125 gallons
    • 250 watt tank heater
    • 900 gph - I know this is way to high put it was all I had on hand at the time.
    • 130 Watts CF - I believe this may be to low for 75 gallons, ordering parts to build my own T5 setup
    • 75 pounds - Live Rock
    • 25 pounds - Lace Rock
    • 2 - 3 inches - live sand - I don't think I have enough sand from what I have been reading.
    • pH - 8.2
    • Alk - 1.7
    • Ammonia - 0 ppm
    • Nitrite (NO2) - 0 ppm
    • Nitrite (NO3) - 0 ppm

I'll get some photos of the tank and upload them shortly.
