    Hi everyone,
On Monday 11/10/2008 I 'm picking up a used 65 gal acrylic tank with stand, canopy, 75 lbs of live Fuji rock and 40 lbs of live sand, 175W MH, a Compact flourescence light, wet/dry, little giant pump, protein skimmer and UV sterizer which I bought on craigslist. The previous owner just purchased a custom 140 gal flat back hex acrylic that is drop dead gorgeous. He also has a 110 gal FOWLR. The tank is unusual in that it has a blue acrylic right side with a reef ready overflow in matching blue acrylic in the center of the right wall. the other side has rounded corners. I'm going to make it into a partition tank between my dining and living room. I will post pictures when its up and running. I plan on having a custom stand and canopy made with finished sides. He had a chiller because it was out on his porch which has no A/C. I'm hoping I don't have to get one.
    I do have some questions:
With the new canopy having all sides closed in, what would anyone recommend for fans and where and how would I make the proper holes. I will be keeping the tank 4" away from the wall. I figure to put 2 4.75" holes in the right side which will be the back and attach 2 4.75" fans.
Do I have one facing in and one facing out? Should I have both facing in and drill a third hole for exhaust. I will spare no small expense to save paying for a chiller.
Sorry for the long thread guys.

Welcome to 3reef, glad that you decided to join the SW world and 3reef. Considering that its a 65g tank, I would just get 2 fans, one on either side. One pulling in and the other pushing out. I would also leave the back open if possible, better air circulation. Luna

Down here in South Florida it could get hot any day in the winter but we plan our life around the heat.8)
Fans can be found on drsfostersmith.com. My lfs has told me that the smaller fans don't work anywhere as well as the 4.75" fans.
Pictures will be posted when I get it set up.

I'm looking into the proper water flow and could use some input:
Are the Maxi-jet pumps better than the Korilia? I have one return pipe and was thinking about adding 1 or 3 additional pumps. I see they now have these wavemaking electrical strips and I believe I've read that the Korilia models are not good for that as they can't take the constant on and off. What sizes would be best for the 65 gal 36x18x24? Is the wavemaker a good thing? Thanks all!
