Welcome to 3reef Powerman, sounds like you have done some HW and are in the right track. IMO, I dont see an issue with the ceramic cubes. I do have one piece of advice thou, if I where you, I would get that timer off the floor and attach it to a higher place. Esp. if you dont have a GFCI outlet. Tank looks pretty good, keep us posted. BTW, where are you from? Luna

Actually, I've got some fasteners and have been meaning to do some electrical house keeping. I don't have a GFI so I was concerned too. Sounds like a good project for tomorrow. Thanks.

    I'm in Colorado Springs.

Yeah, your population is OK. Just be aware that your hippo tang will outgrow your tank. It will eventually get to 12 inches. But that is OK. You can trade it off for something else when it gets too big and go with the flow.

+1 on the GFCI. Also, make sure you have a grounding probe, the kind that actually plugs into the wall, not attaches to the center screw.

Your doing well. I like your tank. Try getting up in the middle of the night and seeing what is going on in the tank as you sleep. Lots of things come out at night that you did not even know were there. I do this every night.......because I am up at least once or twice. It is trippy. Look for pods. Swarms of knat like things. Don't worry, if you have them, it is good.

I thought the tang would only grow to the tank.

I do have a grounding probe.

I'm a rotating shift worker. I actually don't get enough time during the day when the MHs are on. I have moon lights and check it out all night. I have no pods in my tank that I have ever seen. At night, my rock is covered in tiny starfish. Everywhere. Lots of stuff in the sand.

I found a couple of things I could only see with the moon lights. They have tentacles and are some sort of soft coral type thing. One was on a piece of rubble at the bottom. I rescued it and put it in a safe place. Thought it was a polyp, but it is something else. Another thing is in a hole in the rock. It extends it tentacles at night and comes out. I could only see them with the moon light because of the florescence. They are both growing bigger.
