We were recently given a 75 gallon tank that was in a home that was foreclosed, had no power so the tank was left with water, about 95 lb of dead live rock and possible some coral. We have the sump pump, 2 heaters, 2 other pumps that I'm assuming are one to pump out and the other to bring clean water into the tank. My question is how do you suggest we clean all the rock? They were pretty nasty when they drained the tank for transport. One other post told my son that the pics he posted, it appeared we only needed to get our subtrate, protein skimmers and powerheads. It has been many many years since we've even done any aquarium and never a saltwater tank. Any help is greatly appreciated, I sure don't want to mess any chance we have with rock that causes problems.

I would soak the rock in bleach for a couple of days, to kill everything in it. Rinse it really well and let dry completely. When you are ready to start the tank, add some fresh live rock and sand, and eventually that rock will be re-juvinated. It will take some time though.

You shouldn't use a pump to move water from the display to the sump. That's just waiting for a disaster when one pump fails but the other doesn't. Does the display tank have holes in it for a drain setup?

If I were you, I'd look into drilling the tank. It's not hard at all and even if you didn't yourself, most lfs will do it for ~$10 a hole. Or you also could look into an overflow box.
