hey there, my name is dan, if you couldnt guess by the profile name, I live in prescott az, I am in the process of setting up our 36 gallon bow front from a fresh water tank to a reef tank, currently it has just a 1.5 inch sand bed, and about 37 lbs of rock and 10 lbs of it being live and the rest being BRS reef rock, I also have a twenty gallon sump but its not setup yet as I have not bought a protien skimmer (thinking the sc aquariums sc150) and i still need to drill the tank for the overflow as well.

Congrats and welcome to the hobby! A little different than fresh and much more addicting! just remember a reef tanks months to really get running well! Patience is the key! Research the heck out of everything, especially the livestock for the tank! Trust me I learned a valuable lesson on that! Good luck and welcome!

i have to go to phoenix to get anything, the only thing in prescott that has saltwater stuff is petco and some independent store on miller valley road, i went to the independent store a couple of weeks ago with high hopes and holy crap it was bad, about 10 "salt" tanks with a few clown fish and a anemone that looked like it was dead, I saw the water temp was at 82 and the heater was still on, told the lady and she didnt seem to bothered at all.

on line! I've boycotted all local lfs due to varying reasons! so i'm doing most my shopping online! plus i think its cheaper for alot of things with way more optins! CUC's are a ton cheaper to buy online! corals are cheaper too, the problem with that is, you in effect, buying a picture and hoping that's what you get! I've had good luck though!

    Welcome to Saltwater

Welcome to Saltwater! You may find that there is a lot more out there (especially in terms of color) in saltwater! If you need any help setting up your tank or have any questions please feel free to pm me and I can give you my contact information. I too live in Prescott and have a reef tank! You may also be happy to know that you may not always have to drive down to Phoenix to get livestock, there is sometimes stuff listed on Craigslist for the Prescott area (saves a lot of gas). Hope to hear from you if you need anything or have any questions. Once again welcome!
