    With the low nitrogen, I wouldn't be spending time cleaning filters either. Do you attribute it to the DSB?

    The dsb is definitely a vital part to this systems nutrient export. Also the live rock I have used is top notch! I believe live rock to not be as effective at reducing nitrates as a dsb. There's not as much of an anaerobic zone in live rock as there is in a sandbed.

    So Pete, since you acknowledge the anaerobic zone, that is what I was warned against early on. Have you seen any down sides to it? Specifically, I was warned against the toxins that anaerobic are known for.
