new to the forums

New here, although not new to the reef scene, in fact i actually administer in another forum..but you can never have to many forums huh! Up until the friday before xmas, i had a pretty well stocked 75 gallon, 2 false perks,diamond goby, chromis, corals up the wazoo, as i changed the wash to the dryer my son decided nemo would like to try pepsi, thus dumping in a whole 16 oz bottle..i didnt realize it as i dont feed till about 20 mins before lights get turned off, that my tank was cloudy, hubby came in told me to look at the tank..( almost killed him, finding a floating pepsi bottle empty in the tank) sat,tank still white cloud fish fine corals fine, sunday is when the fun begins, ( rushed to fish store, got salt, didnt bother with waitin for ro water, drove 80 home, ( yes literally) asthe tank water was more like the color of tar! started mixing water in 2 buckets,,did a 20 % water change ( also asked the lfs i trust what would likely happen, them saying people dose sugar, vodka etc..he figured it " should/might" be ok,) well monday the 24, my tank finally crashed we got home around 12 mid, as it was our 14th anniversary to find all fish dead and most of the corals..here is a pic of what we were able to salvage, ( this is just the other day approx 2ish weeks later)

i really wanted to just give up..3 years and 8k later..i really wanted to wipe the floor with my son too LOL..he has a speech impairment so i couldnt even scould ( sp? ) him..but we're back in the game i'm plannin a huge frag order in the next week, sorry so long..but i'm partial to writting LOL..as for fish..i really like the black perks from ora ( ok to mention them here if not mods plz remove that word,) and some yellow headed goby ( i forget the name) plan to upgrade to either a 90 or 120..any ?'s plz ask away ( ps. my ammonia level went past 8.0, and my asernia ( sp?) stars and sandsifting creatures made it)..

Wow, what an ordeal!!!
Sorry to hear about what you and your livestock went through!!

Wow, I am really sorry to hear of this experience. I can imagine wanting to give up. It reminds me of a time, well maybe a long time(32 years ago) when my father and I dedicated an entire room to our hobby. We built shelving all around and had 10 tanks dedicated to various species. It was awesome. Well, my mother decided to help out a bit while we weren't there and clean some of the tanks. Well you can imagine what happened. We came home to find all of the fish in those tanks floating. Yep, she used soap to clean them. That was a long, long time ago...But, I have never forgotten the experience...Karma to you for your loss...Good luck with the new setup..

thank you both for the kind words..we had taken all the rock out..110 lbs plus laid it all on the floor on garbage bags, after we ran thru 2 rooms to put the living corals into the 10 ( we're we house a gsm, well a few snail died there, crags,,starfish ( pink brittles) and my dinner plus size purple tipped long tenacle, ( to much at once killed the little gsm) brought my baby ( anenome ) to fish store..picked it up a few days ago..but yea..it took alot to start all over..so note to anyone..pepsi is not good in your tanks!! my son is no longer allowed 50 feet from the fish room..but ya on a good note..i'm open to all new possiblities now..but again..thank you very much

Welcome to 3reef! Sorry for you losses, that really sucks and no you can't whoop the kid anymore ;D LOL
I hope you'll post some pics of your new stuff as you put it in? Is the tank all clear now?

 

sounds like you had a roller coaster ride of a cristmas ,
Good for you stay strong and stick with the hobbie , on the upside you can do all thoes little things over with the tank that you always wished you did.

tank is crystal clear ( the above pic is recent after the whole thing..and levels are back to zero. thanks again..will def post pics of the upcomming frags.i am very excited..now what to do about fish's...oh the possibilities..... here is a pic of my set up before the crash..
