Wow, sorry for your loss. My daughter once thought it was ok to throw pennies in my sump and make a wish( like in the big, outside, plaza water fountains that you throw a penny and make a wish) . Well I dont think I have to tell you the rest of the story. I almost became a daughter-less dad! I dont want to stirr the chit, but this story contradicts what Scott and Jason have been saying about suger dosing. I understand that Its not excactly the same, but pepsi does have high levels of suger. Go figure!

 

I dumped a bottle of pepto in the tank when I was 4, so I cant nothing about your son, haha...

I know it sucks to lose everything, been there, done that, but didnt take pics, haha!

 

wow..pepto and pennies..and pepsi..i think all items starting with a P should be outlawed!! 3 for 3 is not a good ratio....sucks oh yea it does..kidless...oh yea it could have been...i think they should waiver once in a life time beatings..whos with me!! ok no really kids do the darndest!! Ummmm, I dont think dosing 16oz of pepsi is the same as me putting 1/2 tsp of sugar per day in my 300 gallon system.

Remember over dosing sugar can really mess things up. I wonder if the caffiene did anything? Thats actually kinda interesting that the skimmer didn't pull most of it out. Were you running GAC at the time? Of all the things I have heard i think this is the first Soda releated incident.

 

i refuse to use a skimmer on a 75 gal tank..something bigger..ya its all good..but i dont feel its needed on a 75 or at least mine..so the skimmer wouldnt have..cause there isnt one! GAC???

 

Of all the things that can ruin a system..... Maybe a PH swing or an overdose of sugar or it sucked out oxygen from water (Soda's have little O2 saturation to make them acidic and give them the sharpness or fizziness {same principle in CA reactors}) or even caffiene? Am i right with the soda O2 thing?

I think your right about the Soda thing. Dont you add Club Soda to the tank if you have an Alkaline pH. I think I remember someone telling me that.

haha, im fast...and procrastinating a report/multimedia project due tommorow at 7 AM....ughhh.

I was guessing that's what would have happened, swung the parameters and wreaked havoc on the tanks ability to sustain itself and other parameters. Causing what we call "a ****** crash".
