Just wanted to buzz in and say what's up. I'm a newbie to the hobby, I was introduced to it by a friend (college fraternity buddy). I picked up a 12g nano tube. Right now I have 16lbs of LR, a purple shroom, a six line wrasse, a newborn clownfish (the guy at my lfs says hes a black clownfish, but he wont start looking black until he grows more apparently), a flame scallop, and a feather duster. I plan on getting some sort of anenome for the clown to hang out in, probably a bubble anenome. Anyone have some ideas of which types of anenomes work, I'd prefer those that are not too hard to keep, being that I'm am so new to keeping SW aquariums. The fish store guy already sold me a sea hare, damn thing died in about 24hrs and released some slimy stuff that almost claimed my wrasse.

My name is eli the eel because I have a snowflake eel in my 47g FW tank named Eli. (I've had the FW tank for about 4 months now)

Here's a picture of my nano.

    Hello and welcome to 3reef!
I would refrain from getting any type of anemone for your small sized tank, plus with your limited knowledge right now in the hobby, it will die. The Flame Scallop is a wrong choice in my opinion as well as they ae not very good for a novice aquarist, especially with that small a tankand based on their husbandry and food requirements. The fate of the Sea Hare will be the same for the aneomne and scallop, unfortunately.
I would stop adding live animals till you have had your tank set up for a good period of time and get a good book to give you the knowledge and confidence to be able to decide what is a good fit and what isn't for your tank, based on many parameter issues and variables.

What literature would you recommend-- in the mean time, what can I do for the scallop? I've got him on cyclop-eze and phytofeast at the moment

Unfortunately, the track record for maintaining a Flame/Fire Scallop in a captive environment is not very good or long. I guess just try to ensure that it is eating...and water parameters are ideal. If I were you, I would try to return it for something that is historically easier to maintain.
As for the books to read:
The "New Marine Aquarium" by Michael S. Paletta
The "Conscientious Marine aquarist" by Robert Fenner
    "Aquarium Corals" by Eric Borneman
"Reef Invertebrates" by Anthony Calfo and Robert Fenner
"The Reef Aquarium" by Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung
Of course their are many other quailty books, but my experience with these books, enjoying these and reliance on these for alot of my knowledge and success, you can't go wrong with any of these in my opinion!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll see if the store will take back the flame scallop, but they're pretty "all sales final" mentality. I'll definitely check out those books.

just remember when it comes to marine tanks slow and steady wins the race of life....lol, but take your time you only get into trouble rushing this hobby. basicly, stop adding things for awhile. and most LFS just want to sell you something

    and welcome to the fourm

I completely agree with the slow and steady principle. I've had friends nuke their tanks, luckily I am able to learn from their mistakes. I am quite content with the set up I have right now (although I would like to add a Mandarin Gobi), it's fun sitting back and watching it grow anyway. So for the case of the scallop, is he just a lost cause no matter what I do? Is there nothing I can do to keep him healthy longer?
