Hello all! My name is chris. Im from stow ohio. I have always been into freshwater tanks, so I figured it was time to take the leap into salt.

I currently have a 55 gallon tank. I have a marineland magnum 350 underneath and a HOB emperor. As for lighting I have a 4 bulb t5 ho fixture thats 48 inches long. Im running a live sand mix w crushed coral substrate ( not by choice). i have about 20lbs of live rock. will have another 50 lbs in the next week or so. a buddy of mine is selling me his tuneze (sp?) hob skimmer and his r.o. Unit for 50$ so I'm pretty excited!! I have a coral beauty, arrow crab, emerald crab, 6 or 7 hermits. Planning on doing a hob refugium in the next couple weeks. Again, my buddy was telling me the aqua clear 110 by hagan can be made into a decent one. Last night, my canister came unplugged, and now I have this orangish brown film over everything which is pretty discouraging, wish I knew what it was. I also heard, that I should take the carbon out of the canister andfill it with tiny pieces of live rock, so im thinking about going that route. So far, everyone in this hobby has beeen great and im really enjoying. If anyone has input on what I have or have planned, let me know. Love the constructive criticism. Looking foward to spending time on this forum. Hope to hear from you all soon!!

    Chris

Chris you and I are very similar. Sounds like you may be a bit ahead of me as far as setup as I don't have the ro/di yet and am working on getting circulation issues taken care of. But my rock will be here tomorrow! I have a 60gal with about thirty pounds of rock now with 75 on the way. Looking into turning it into a reef tank over time but I'm trying my best to be slow and deliberate. Share all you learn as we newbies are way behind the curve of these guys. Welcome aboard and as we say in my aviation forum pics or it didn't happen!

By the way take a look at my thread "buying a fuge, what all do I need" for the link to designs. You can build your own relatively cheaply and choose your own design. I had a lot of fun flexing my craft muscles.
