Anyone else have both newer and older koralias? I have a pair of #3s from about a year and a half ago and just recently (within the last month) bought some new koralia 4s... the difference in quality is remarkable. The old ones are better plastic, better propellers and much quieter... I'm disappointed and probably will be switching brands next time. Anyone else notice this?

This is funny because I recently got a new Koralia 1 and was comparing it to the old Koralia 1 I have and it is not the same. The size even looks different. I think the voltage is also different.

Koralia 3's unless you have a lot of other flow from things

I just bought a new 4 and 8 (magnum). The 8 is great. The 4 I did notice was not as solid as the previous ones. The 8 is built very soundly

The new ones probably use less wattage and everything, but this is not exactly the most enviro-friendly hobby in terms of energy consumption so the extra and the difference would be EXTREMELY minimal compared to let's say, lighting and recirc pumps... At any rate, I'm glad someone else noticed. Thanks for the input. And in your 72g bowfront I'd go with 4s to be honest. I had 2 x 3s in my 40g and wanted more ;)

For the non-hydor wavemakers i believe that Hydor makes powerheads that are compatible with wavemakers now.. they still make the non-compatible ones so be careful when buying.

If you have no other mean of circulation then go with 4's. 20-40 times turn over is good

Or try a MJ1200 with mod;) With the big impeller that pushes over 2000 gph you would have 29X turnover for $35.
