    My question is also about the acidity. I thought a pH of 4-6 was a bad thing.
    Are there any con's related to a more acidic tank when you want to keep fish and coral happy?

    I'm currently having a major problem with my dKH at 18.6 and my Alk at 6.86. My pH is 8.4, so I'm not sure what's going on. I was adding seachem marine buffer to stabilize my pH that was constantly going down. Will this method help balance things out by calcium precipitation if adding the vinegar formula?

    What is your mag at? although I'm still bit newb isn't that a common reason for calcium precipitating?

    im talking a very small amount... like only a few mL worth of vinegar per mix. It is small enough that you dont have to worry about a bacteria bloom in your tank.
    The vinegar causes the calcium to not precipitate to stay completely in solution
    there is not going to be an issue with pH in your water if you have aragonite sand or rocks in your tank... additionally, it is so small that it is buffered out almost immediately in your tank

    I dont think i completely understand your question... but to answer it the way i believe you are asking; being in acidic solution does not cause the Ca++ molecules to create the precipitate on the bottom of the container. the acid (H+ ions) cause it to actually dissolve fully and stay in suspension so that means that you actually get more Ca++ in your tank than if you do it normal... if that makes sense? haha

    Mag is at 1080. Trying to get it higher but proving difficult.

    It's new to me as well. I may have read about the vinegar somewhere, but I never knew enough to actually use this method. Where I get insecure is when there's no specification of amounts. For example, nobody says an exact quantity of vinegar with the amount of Kal for this many gallons tank.

    I think this would help me lower my dHK, since I read an article explaining how to utilize the calcium precipitation to lower your dKH, of course, since my magnesium is at 1080 my calcium can only go up, hopefully :)
