My first saltwater tank was in the late 1960s, back when I had to get most of my supplies out of the Gulf of Mexico (Corpus Christi TX). "They" all said it couldn't be done, and they were basically correct... given what equipment was available in Corpus Christi shops.

My last tank was 300'ish gal in the 1990s (roughly). By then we had sumps and bio balls and protein skimmers. The theory of the day was you didn't have enough water flow in the tank unless the fish were all pinned to the glass.

Well, I'm retired now and trying a third phase. Holy Toledo, things have really changed. My current setup is still in the break-in phase. It is only 40-gal when these newfangled flourescent lamps and a refugium (refugee-what-eeum, I asked).

I'm happy to be here with my new science project!
