So a friend of mine came to a party at my house and he brought some Xenia from his tank b/c i guess he decided that I needed some coral. He put it in my tank without telling me and needless to say I was a little peeved. However, I do like it, but really dont have any idea of its requirements. Do I have to add anything to the water other than the normal water changes?

It's small and purple with about seven small "stalks".

I just bought a colony of about 20 stalks of xenia on a rock. The store told me they require good lighting and nothing else. I hope it lives.

Xenia are a good starter coral. They seem to be sensitive to alkalinity changes, at least to me. When they're full and beefy looking, I know my alk is right on. If their appearance changes in any way south of perfect, I know the alk is amiss.

For what it's worth, if a "friend" of mine ever put his hands or anything else in my reef tank, well, let's just say he'd no longer be welcome in my home. As for the hand, it would probably heal over time.

yea, i wasn't pleased....he does and has had a tank of his own for quite a while. I am trying to recall if at some point we talked about him giving me a frag, but i can't recall anything from recent memory.I did tell him that I didn't want him putting anything else in my tank without my knowledge. I guess I would be more angry if he put something that wasn't compatible with my tank or something like that.

And Reefsparky; trust me, hes not my "friend" ...i meant it more as a loose term. Perhaps acquaintance would have been better?
