It was suggested to me to put live rock in my established tank. I'm betting they meant 'cured' live rock? Do LFS' sell it in this form? I've only seen them selling LR that still needs to be cured

They do sell it in the cured form, but make sure to specify that you want fully cured, and not cured as it sits. However, you may have die off on the way home, unless you keep it in water, so a small ammonia spike may occur as well as die off. I bought mine fully cured, but let it sit for two-three weeks anyways to ensure no more die off

some lfs sell both, you can tell by smelling it, if it smells like fresh ocean, its probably ok to add a little bit at a time under 10 pounds without causing a cycle, could possibly cause a mini cycle though depending on size of tank and total amount of liverock, uncured rock mostly smells rotten, and shows signs of decaying matter falling of it, I wouldn't add this to an existing tank, could lead to major problems, and then theres some people who just nuke there live rock no mater what to avoid introducing unwanted algae or hitchhikers, if you feel the rock is coming from a trustworthy source and it looks clean and smells good, good coralline growth, then its probably safe to add.

anyway non cure rock can be of great benefit if you cure it your self, and have a way to do so.

Even if they say its cured, you'll probably encounter a small cycle anyway...JMO....
