Welcome to 3reef. This is the place to learn. I won't be the first to say this... but go slow.... The slower you go the less money you'll waste and the more successful you'll be. I pretty much ask questions here on EVERYTHING before doing it. The knowledge base on this site is amazing.

    Welcome again

Welcome to 3reef. I would suggest replacing the hydrometer with a refractometer. The refractometer can be calibrated and will be accurate when you do so. Hydrometers lose their calibration after a while.

AYE Something tells me you are ex-Navy.... I am.... that's a good thing in my book.

    One thing....

I wrote that a while back.... you might want to look into a refractometer instead of a hydrometer. Hydrometers are notoriously inaccurate.

I have a refractometer for checking coolant/battery acid lv's ? will this work for saltwater ?

they look just a like as far as physical shape and size, just not sure what the meter reading looks like on the inside of a salt refractometer. mine does specific gravity of glycol/battery water.....car battery is like 1.30 and coolant read like -40 or 1.40.

that black u-tube looking thing with the hose connected to it, needs to sit on the back of the rim of the tank. you'll need to buy at least 1 or 2 more powerheads for circulation. and skull stickers on the front glass of tank are bad luck with reef tanks. :)
