Why would anyone care about their clam getting too big? What would be wrong with that? They don't move much. As long as you keep the water quality pristine, I wouldn't see an issue with having a 10" clam in a 10 gallon.....that would be awesome! I would love to have a giant clam as a centerpiece in my 72g. Considering clams grow less than an inch a year, I think you got some time my friend.

If placed right on the glass I'm sure it could scratch it. They close fast, they do not open fast so I doubt it could crack or shatter the glass by opening slowly. I just know when I go looking to buy a clam I want the biggest I can find. My LFS has a 16" crocea for $700. Its in a 50 something gallon corner bow front right in the center and is amazing! That things gotta be at least 15 years old. I would love to have something like this, the only problem I would with having something like this in a small tank is having small fish with it because if anything tries to perch on it, it could snap shut and instantly kill a fish. Fish would even be able to swim right in their poop hole and hide out inside of the clam. Actually they would probably get instantly killed that way too. So if you have a giant clam, don't keep and small dumb fish.
