So here it goes. I ordered some Chaeto from the UK via eBay, took a little over two weeks to arrive. Not sure what it should look like, but it is kind of brittle, it wasn't seaweedy in texture like I had imagined. Anyway that might be how it is. It was wet in the bag, so it hadn't dried out.

I have a 4" DSB as a refuguim and a piece of LR, what I didn't realise was that the flow through my refuguim was so fast, until I put the Chaeto in. some strands broke off and got sucked into the return section of the sump, so is probably circulating around my DT.

At first I stood the LR up to form a protective barrier, but that didn't work. I then stuck the Chaeto into one of the small net bags that you get some media in, this came with some Silicate media. I have now hung the bag in the refugium.

So how do I best deal with this, let the Chaeto grow a little in the bag before taking it out, or is there a better method. Will it eventually bond together in a mass or stay as separate strands as it seems to be now.

    Thanks for any advice

slow down your return pump so your pods can have a chance to swim and not get blown away, then add power heads in the dt to move water, you get better water movement with less watts using a powerhead

Letting it tumble is fine but you don't need alot of flow in a refugium, depending on the light and nutrient levels you will have more than you'll know what to do with before you know it.

Thanks for the answers guys, I think the problem is not so much that the flow was to fast, it was more that it was such a small amount of Chaeto that when I put it in, instead of sinking, it floated to the top in almost single strands then got flushed through the system. Once I have a larger amount, hopefully the weight alone will hold it down.

I was disappointed, the amount I got you could squeeze into a matchbox, but I can't get it here so had to order online. Of course you don't see it until you get it
